The Orchid Wing is a private two-bedroom guest wing within our intimate historic Makawao Inn — a peaceful property with just three guest accommodations surrounded by lush gardens in Upcountry Maui. With vintage touches, original wood floors, and views of Maui’s largest Norfolk pine, the space carries the timeless feeling of “Old Hawai‘i” while offering a warm and welcoming home base for island adventures. Ideal for families or close friends, the Orchid Wing invites connection, relaxation, and the simple joy of slow Maui mornings and cozy evenings together. Classic Plantation-Style Layout In keeping with the character of historic plantation homes, Bedroom 1 connects through the hallway to Bedroom 2, creating an easy sense of closeness and flow between spaces that works especially well for families or close companions. Please note: • The Orchid Wing is a private guest wing with a private entrance within the historic inn rather than a detached cottage or standalone home. • There is no indoor living room/common area beyond the bedrooms and kitchenette space • Outdoor gardens and portions of the porch are shared with the inn’s small handful of guests, creating a peaceful boutique-style atmosphere rather than a busy hotel setting • Makawao Inn is an intimate property with just three guest accommodations. We find guests naturally align with that energy—and we love welcoming those who appreciate it too. Your unit is fully private, but the property has shared outdoor spaces. Historically a paniolo town (cowboy town), Makawao is a charming and picturesque place with a laid back yet elegant vibe. It is known for its unique boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, surrounded by lush rolling hills and scenic vistas. A taste of old Hawaii. Makawao Inn is a 14 minute walk to the heart of Makawao Town. We are tucked away on a half acre in a peaceful neighborhood. Eddie Tam community center with a running track, basket ball courts and tennis courts is a 5 minute walk away.
Guest Access
You’ll have the Orchid Wing all to yourself—a private 2-bedroom, 1-bath retreat with its own entrance and no shared interior spaces. The covered front lanai is shared with the Rose Room, with each side enjoying its own half for a peaceful, semi-private outdoor experience. You’ll also have access to our shared serenity gardens—a peaceful outdoor space where you may cross paths with other guests, a kind helper or two, or occasionally me and my dog Iwa, who stays close by my side. One designated onsite parking is included for your convenience.
